The most numerous and vitriolic comments over the past week have come on: Durban University SRC calls for the expulsion of Jews written by Jewish Report editor-in-chief Vanessa Valkin, while a non-Jewish user chirped in on Friday on a six-month-old story: BDS Shuts Rosebank Woolies on Shabbos joining the veritable chirp-fest that was already there.
Another older item of Vanessa’s, an editorial leader titled Advocating greater CT & JHB connectedness which drew a fair few chirps when first posted, saw “irvine p,jhb”: commenting this past week: “yep,cape town always was the windier city.Now we know why!”

Regular comment-poster Mordechai from Israel chirped: “…get all the proudly South African Jews to protest against your government” on: BDS drops Khaled surprise – SA Government while Mordechai and his fellow-anti-proudly-SA poster Choni chat about whether an SA Jew can be “Proudly South African” on Howard Feldman’s latest blog: Welcome Back to Durban. There were ten comments in the first day after we published: Khaled’s visit leaves bitter taste.
Another user-conversation is taking place on: SAUJS gets massive worldwide support – which all started with Denis Solomons’ statement of pride which ended with “Long live the Wits Medical Graduates” and the latest post, from Harold on erev Shabbos, in which he chirps: “Hi Dennis mazaltov on the 6 Cum Laudes. It is however not germane to this horrid situation.”
But not all of the chirping is serious or angry. There is some fun and laughter on: Urgent Kashrut notices where users have a light-herted go at the Beth Din’s spelling and our use of the term “Kashniks.”
