‘Linksfield’s cheeky little sister’ – memories of KDVP

After hearing the news about the possible imminent closure of King David Victory Park (KDVP), the SA Jewish Report called on alumni to send short memories, which we will use to create a special memory page on our website, starting with the following posts. “I was at KDVP from 1965 to 1975, and my best memories are stopping at the tuckshop with my 25c and getting candy and crisps. In high school, I loved the sport, academics, and obviously the girls.” Doron Grosman, class of 1975.

“KDVP was Linksfield’s cheeky little sister, scrappy, bold, and brimming with chutzpah. We had the school spirit and, on some occasions, the alcoholic spirits to match! Vale KDVP – I’ll be toasting you this Shabbas, probably with something I shouldn’t have brought to class.” Hadass Segel, class of 1990.

I was there from 1988, and matriculated in 1990. My fondest memories were in the tuckshop, bumming Big Korn Bites from Tony Herbert to put in my mincemeat burger! Great school, great memories!” David Miller (now David Posniak), class of 1990.

“Just thinking about memories makes my heart go warm and brings a smile to my face – the banter; unfinished frozen Fypsos leaking as you tried to finish them in class after break; holding Ralph Frank up with flippers and a snorkel to swim across the top corridor windows; Mr Wolf being speechless when he was told the reason Brad Bernstein was late was that the soccer match he was dreaming about went into overtime! The love, friendship, support, tears, and laughter that have made me who I am today. Once a Parker always a Parker, forever and always.” Lisa Schewitz (Horwitz) class of 1990.

“I remember writing stories, friendships, celebrating chaggim, parties, and school trips, borrowing library books, and voraciously reading biographies and autobiographies. I remember my Batmitzvah with all the other girls and Morah Dolly Levine. I remember Rabbi Rogurt, Barney Meyers, Hilary Shakinovsky among other teachers.” Michelle Katz, class of 1972.
