Masada Marathon a celebration of community and spirit
The golden beaches of Durban came alive with energy, unity, and pride as Umhlanga Jewish Centre hosted the third annual Masada Marathon on Sunday, 6 July. It was a remarkable communal celebration, with more than 250 participants taking part in the run and walk. The event brought together people of all ages, from babies in prams to spirited 90-year-olds, and even a few four-legged best friends!
The event’s guest of honour, champion Comrades runner Tete Dijana, was an inspiration. His presence uplifted the crowd, and reminded participants of the power of perseverance and passion.
The ruach (spirit) was phenomenal, matched by perfect Durban weather, and delicious food that kept everyone energised and smiling throughout the morning.
The 10km run yielded some impressive results, adding an exciting competitive edge to the day’s fun.
The event concluded on a heartfelt and meaningful note with a prayer for the Israel Defense Forces, and the singing of Israel’s national anthem, Hatikvah.
