UJW honours Andy Goldman for volunteering work
The Union of Jewish Women (UJW) Johannesburg named Dr Andy Goldman (Dr G) Volunteer of the Year at its 93rd annual general meeting on Thursday, 22 May, with past and current national presidents, chairpersons, representatives from other organisations, guests, executive committee members, and staff attending.
Dr G has volunteered for the UJW and been part of its family for many years, offering her wisdom, enthusiasm, and boundless energy to its many projects. Not only does she volunteer, she involves her family as well as her students at Hirsch Lyons Girls High School. A special project initiated by Dr G together with Lydia Makhoba, the UJW’s manager at its Alexandra Aftercare, is the twice-a-week tutoring programme with tutors from Hirsch Lyons and Yeshiva Girls High School with students from Alexandra Aftercare. The progress being made with students is enormous.
UJW has made a significant impact on the lives of more than 36 701 individuals through various projects, including supporting Israel. It focuses on poverty alleviation, educational support, skills upliftment, and social interaction.
