JNFSA shuks things up on Yom Yerushalayim
The Jewish National Fund of South Africa (JNFSA), in collaboration with King David Schools and dedicated shlichot from KKL (Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael)-JNF Israel, brought the heart of Jerusalem to life for students on the 58th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification on 26 May.
The morning kicked off at King David Primary School Linksfield, where students were swept up in the excitement of the Golden Monit Game Show, an interactive journey through Jerusalem’s iconic landmarks. From the bustling stalls of Machaneh Yehuda and the charm of Ben Yehuda Street to the solemn grounds of Yad Vashem, Har Herzl, and the Old City, students answered trivia questions while immersing themselves in the city’s history and culture.
The celebration continued at King David High School Victory Park, where a lively Jerusalem-style shuk transformed the school grounds. JNFSA hosted a meaningful station where students wrote heartfelt letters to hostage families, while sipping colourful, shuk-style drinks and exploring various themed stalls.
The day blended education, empathy, and celebration, connecting South African youth to the spirit of Jerusalem and the values it represents.
The JNF is grateful for the services of shlichot, who ran dynamic and impactful educational programmes in schools across Johannesburg and Durban over 10 days, enriching students’ connection to Israel and Jewish identity.
